As with any of the parks at WDW, the Magic Kingdom is loaded with things to do. And trying to decide what to do first so you can get the most out of your day is always difficult, especially if this is your first visit. So in this posting I am going to tell you what we always do first to help you out on your visit.
When you first walk in the park you will be overwhelmed by Cinderella’s Castle in the background, all the shops on Main Street USA, possibly a parade in progress, characters signing autographs, etc. This in itself will make your head spin. But, let’s stay focused and keep our eyes on the prize….the attractions! Remember, you can always come back to the shops and all later in the day. You don’t want to have to worry about carrying extra things anyway. Save that for the end of the day when you’re going to leave or just before the fireworks.
Ok, so we enter the park and head down Main Street USA. When you get to the statue of Mickey and Walt you have a decision to make. You can go to the right into Tomorrowland, or you can go to the left into Frontierland. If you take a second and look around you will see that a majority of the people are going into Tomorrowland. That’s your cue to head left and go to Frontierland. Walk through this area and head for Pirates of the Caribbean. This will be your first attraction. If you get there early the line is fairly short. Next keep to your left and jump in line for Splash Mountain. From here on out we’re going to keep pushing to the left and hit the following attractions:
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- The Haunted Mansion
Now, we’re off to Tomorrowland! First stop here will be Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor then we go next door to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. And we will leave here and head across the way to Space Mountain. What’s that you say? You’re hungry? Ok, this is a good time to grab a quick bite to eat. We always go to Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe which is right near the Speedway. They serve burgers, sandwiches, fries, etc. It’s a good place for a lunch or light snack.
While you’re eating you can sit and plan out leg two of the visit. This is where you will hit all the other things you may want to do. I would like to make some suggestions though. Try these attractions before you do some of the other things you have already passed.
- It’s A Small World
- The Astro Orbiter
- Swiss Family Tree House
- The Jungle Cruise
Also, if you find yourself needing a rest, there are two excellent choices. The first would be the Tomorrowland Transit Authority which you can pick up in the center of Tomorrowland. It lasts about 20 minutes and takes you on a nice restful tour of Tomorrowland from above the park. Also in Tomorrowland is the Carousel of Progress, a sit-down moving display. I have taken many a nap in here ha! ha! It’s comfortable and climate controlled.
Now, after you have done everything else, including dinner at the Crystal Palace, settle down somewhere and get ready to enjoy ‘Wishes’ the fireworks display! The perfect way to end a wonderful day at the Magic Kingdom!
And there you have it, our take on how to do the Magic Kingdom. Have a magical day!!

A tip for anyone who does decide to head to Tomorrowland frist (If I get to Magic Kingdom as soon as it opens, I like to hit space mountain first thing)…TAKE THE SHORTCUT!! After the last shop on mainstreet, before you bother getting all the way up to Walt and Mickey, there is a little path that veers off to the right. It will take you up past the Noodle Station (can I just say here that I’ve been to Disney more times than really is fair to other people, and I’ve NEVER seen that Noodle Station open) and then it turns to the left and takes you over to Tomorrowland.
If I’m arriving in the park later in the day, I sometimes like to head to the left to Frontierland and Adventureland first, but if I manage to get in to the park first thing, I generally like to hit Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear first. There is great stuff both ways, and it is true that crowds are lighter in Frontierland and Adventureland in the morning.
